Dr. Ara Nahabedian |

WiRED International is proud to introduce Dr. Ara Nahabedian, orthopedic surgeon at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire, England. He joins WiRED’s team as a medical consultant and translation coordinator for WiRED’s Community Health Education (CHE) e-library program in Armenia.
Dr. Nahabedian began his humanitarian efforts in Armenia in 1988 after a major earthquake devastated the northern part of the country. Today he travels to Armenia to provide free surgeries for adults and medical consultation for children in need and collects and transports medical equipment to hospitals desperate for supplies. He and his wife, Shoghig, work with local nurses and communities, and they also translate WiRED modules into Armenian.
In addition Dr. and Mrs. Nahabedian deliver handmade sweaters for children and babies with special needs in Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Yerevan. A woman named Jean Fawcett has knitted more than 1,000 sweaters in the last 10 years.
Dr. Nahabedian also helps children in the town of Vartenis, where his former school classmate Sebouh Baghdoyan supports the nongovernmental organization Asdghavart.
“I think this is an excellent and unique partnership [with WiRED], which is giving an opportunity to people like me and Sebouh, and some of the locals in Armenia now, to bring together different expertise, using the Internet and computer technology, in order to try to make a difference,” he said.
In praise of WiRED’s CHE e-library, Dr. Nahabedian said, “It’s free, available, and this knowledge is going to help a lot of people. Preventive medicine saves lives. WiRED is a very, very good value . . . .”
WiRED is honored to have Dr. Nahabedian as part of our team working on the Armenia program, and we thank him for his efforts and work in support of this community health project.
