Nancy, a 41-year-old woman, and her daughter Miriam, who is 15, visited the Communiy Health Information Center (CHIC) located within the Kibera slums in Nairobi, capital of Kenya, to access health information.

Nancy was interested in information on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) while her daughter wanted information on malaria. After familiarizing them with the equipment, the client support staff noticed that Nancy was rather hesitant to look at the CD she had requested. On inquiry, the staff realized that Nancy was hesitant because she suspected she had a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), and she didn't want her daughter to know about it due to her young age.

It was then that the CHIC volunteer understood the woman's predicament and decided to refer Nancy to a clinic run by a community-based organization affiliated with WiRED called Kibera Community Self Help Project (KICOSHEP).

After her visit to this organization she was diagnosed with an STI and is now undergoing treatment and counseling at this Center.
