obacco kills more than 7 million people each year; yet tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death.

World No Tobacco Day focuses on the health risks from the consumption of tobacco. This day takes place each year on May 31 to highlight the importance of reducing tobacco use through advocating for strong government policy and education.

The focus for 2018 is the connection between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and tobacco use. The World Health Organization states that tobacco use is the second leading cause of cardiovascular disease after high blood pressure. In fact, CVD kills more people than any other disease worldwide.

Tobacco use affects every organ of the body. When people use tobacco products, their risk for cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease and other health problems increases dramatically.

WIRED International provides a three-part module series on quitting tobacco and encourages tobacco cessation in many of its other modules as a critical approach to fighting disease and ensuring a healthy life and future.

This World No Tobacco Day, WiRED reminds everyone to stay tobacco free.
