WiRED Releases Introduction to Parenting Health Education Training

hat is good parenting? There is more than one “right” way to parent, but keeping your child healthy and safe is at the top of the list.
WiRED International’s Introduction to Parenting Module is one of a 24-part Mother and Child Health Series and begins a seven-part section on parenting. The introduction emphasizes the need for skilled attendants for newborns whether they are born at home or not, care for small and sick babies, home visit strategies and the importance of vaccinations and exams. The training also includes the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) recommendations on how underserved countries can improve the quality of care in their healthcare facilities and in homecare.

WiRED embraces WHO’s maternal, newborn and child health principle, “Continuum of Care,” in which skilled care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period prevents complications and allows for their early detection and appropriate management.
The need for precautions and planning becomes evident in light of the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF’s) 2017 report, which states: 7,000 newborns die every day, accounting for 46% of all under-age-five deaths — despite the steady decline of child mortality.
“To achieve universal health coverage and ensure more newborns survive and thrive, we must serve marginalized families. Improving quality of services and timely care during and after childbirth must be prioritized,” says Dr. Flavia Bustreo, Assistant Director-General for Family, Women’s and Children’s Health at WHO.
WiRED’s Mother and Child Health Series
WiRED’s Mother and Child Health Series provides a 24-part comprehensive training program to assist families, caregivers, community health workers and others with subjects related to the following four topics: Before Pregnancy, Pregnant Now, Labor and Delivery, and Parenting. The Mother and Child Health series will be used by schools, clinics and hospitals and nongovernmental organizations that help families prepare for a healthy pregnancy, delivery and the years of childhood up to age five.
