iRED-Armenia recently organized a series of presentations in Sisyan, Armenia, where it presented training sessions on a variety of topics—including diabetes, dental hygiene and quitting smoking—and, in the same session, provided on-the-spot screening for high blood pressure and diabetes. WiRED-Armenia plans to offer similar presentations and screening sessions which will cover other WiRED health educational modules.

“The staff in Armenia has come up with an innovative and effective approach to promoting good community health,” said WiRED Director Gary Selnow, Ph.D. “Providing education is critical to advancing healthy practices within a community; joining group training programs with screening measures is a brilliant way to put training into immediate action. This strategy can be of enormous benefit to communities in Armenia and beyond.”

Volunteers in Armenia have expanded their translating work by adding many new modules to the health training library. Their growing collection will enable WiRED-Armenia staff to reach greater numbers of people with an even broader range of health topics.

“Aiding the underprivileged is an obligation, and I am pleased to be in a position to assist people in need,” said Sebouh Baghdoyan, WiRED’s program director in Armenia. “With a little assistance—in this case with basic knowledge about good health practices—people can make major strides to improve their lives and the lives of their children.”
